A consortium around French yard Chantiers de l’Atlantique has received confirmation of an order for an offshore wind farm substation and other equipment.

Customer is a group led by French power group EDF Renouvelables and the contract is to design, manufacture and install the substation for its offshore wind farm to be constructed for the Fecamp development off Seine-Maritime in France. This project consists of 71 offshore wind turbine generators for a total capacity of nearly 500 MW.

The substation built for Fecamp will collect and export the power generated by the turbines through dedicated submarine cables, while remotely controlling and monitoring the operation of the offshore windfarm.

The successful consortium comprises Atlantique Offshore Energy, in charge of the design, manufacturing and commissioning of the substation topside and jacket foundation, GE’s Grid Solutions, responsible for the high-voltage equipment and protection control systems and of SDI, for the transportation and the installation of the platform.
