Bourbon to install floating wind turbines off Portuguese coast

Support and installation of an offshore windfloat off the coast of Portugal some months ago

Bourbon Subsea Services has won a turnkey contract from WindPlus, a consortium led by EDP Renewables, to install three 8.3-MW floating wind turbines off the Portuguese coast, 20km from Viano do Castelo. With a total capacity of 25 MW, the turbines will be the most powerful floating units so far.

Bourbon will manage the project, including engineering and procurement of the mooring system, to be supplied by Schiedam-based offshore mooring specialist Vryhof.
The first phase of the project will involve laying three sets of three mooring lines. In a second phase, the wind turbines will be towed to the site and hooked up, together with installation and hook-up of the inter-array electrical cables. Bourbon will provide a range of marine assets for the project, including anchor handling tug supply vessels, other tugs and remotely operated underwater vehicles.
Bourbon Subsea Services already has experience in mooring offshore wind turbines, having won the contract to install the first French floating wind turbines in the FLOATGEN project last year.
