BMT supports Jan de Nul Group in Danish wind farm construction

The offshore wind farm Kriegers Flak is expected to be operational by the end of 2021

The foundations have a combined weight of 18,000 tonnes and their precise positioning was dependent in part on fine weather conditions.
“With any offshore operation, we have to try and manage the inherent uncertainty that comes with the weather,” said Christopher Derycke of Jan de Nul Group. “Having BMT’s weather forecaster onsite was hugely beneficial as it allowed us to plan our work more effectively and ensure the safety of our personnel at all times.”
BMT’s maritime meteorologist, Mark van der Putte, said: “The insight we were able to provide was crucial for the customer to make informed decisions as part of the planning process.” He revealed that easterly winds could have caused delays but guidance on likely weather conditions from BMT enabled the installation work to be completed successfully.

Meteorological and wave forecasting data provided by UK-based BMT provided essential support for the recent installation by the Jan de Nul Group of two gravity-based foundations for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm, off the coast off Denmark.
