U.S. offshore wind farm support company Atlantic Wind Transfers (AWT) has placed an order for six crew transfer vessels (CTV) from U.S. yard St. John’s Ship Building. The vessels are designed by British company Chartwell Marine.

The Ambitious class is part of Chartwell’s expanded range of offshore energy support vessels introduced this year and its flagship CTV design; a 25.2m aluminum catamaran with capacity to transport 24 personnel to and from turbines with speed, safety, and stability. Ambitious-class vessels are operating in Scotland, France, and Virginia.

AWT currently owns and operates two crew transfer vessels servicing the Block Island Wind Farm since 2016 and Coastal Virginia since December 2020. The first two vessels now ordered are expected to be delivered in Summer 2023 and January 2024.

The vessels will be compliant with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 4 regulations, which rank among the most stringent emissions rules for marine engines in the world.
