Aker BP and Framo sign smart maintenance contract

Norwegian companies Aker BP and Framo have entered into a long-term maintenance contract for sea water lift pumps in which compensation is directly linked to facility uptime. The contract follows a digital pilot project, with data analytics development company Cognite, in which predictive maintenance technology was put in place on the Aker BP-operated Ivar Aasen field where first oil was produced late in 2016.

The pilot project had been ‘a resounding success’, the companies said, and the new maintenance contract now covers all of the five fields where Aker BP is operator. The six-year deal is a continuation of the initial trial signed by the three companies at ONS 2018 and has an option for a second six-year period.

Aker BP’s head of operations and field development, Kjetel Digre, commented: “The contract represents a huge step within digitalisation and predictive maintenance. Going forward, algorithms and sensor data will help us to increase uptime and reduce maintenance on our sea water lift pumps. Cooperation with Cognite and sharing data have been essential in arriving at algorithms, digital dashboards and an incentive model that ensures value for both Aker BP and Framo.”
