ABS and digital twin specialist offer enhanced service

A digital twin helps modelling offshore and marine structures (Source: ABS)

Classification society ABS has teamed up with Akselos, a Massachusetts-based digital twin specialist to enable highly complex marine and offshore structures to be modelled with high accuracy and simulated in real time. The move comes as advances in digital technology allow classification societies to draw up completely new through-life maintenance technologies for marine and offshore assets.
The numerical method often used to create digital twins is based on finite element analysis (FEA) but this has limitations when modelling large-scale assets with the precision required to power next-generation digital services, the companies said in a statement.
Akselos, meanwhile, has developed a patented technology – Reduced Basis FEA – which can now be used, together with the classification society’s digital know-how, to create digital twin techniques to improve asset performance.
