A2SEA installs first turbine on Borkum Riffgrund 1

The first turbine for the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1 was recently installed

In the course of the coming months, the vessel will install the remaining 3.6 MW turbines, which are being shipped from Esbjerg in Denmark. The Sea Installer is able to carry eight turbines at a time.
”Installation of the first turbine went according to plan. Together with the project teams from Siemens Wind Power and Dong Energy, and the experienced crew on board Sea Installer, the first turbine on the German project was installed safely and efficiently. Now we hope for good weather to install the rest,” said Jan Riisgaard, master on board Sea Installer.
Borkum Riffgrund 1 is owned by Dong Energy (50%), Kirkbi (32%) and William Demant (18%). The wind farm has a total capacity of 312 MW and is situated 37km north of the island Borkum in the German part of the North Sea. The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2015 and will provide approximately 320,000 households with renewable power.

The offshore wind turbine installation vessel Sea Installer has installed the first of 78 Siemens turbines on Dong Energy’s first German offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1.
