New Ships Weekly Report
The vessel will be based on Jurong Shipyard’s Jurong Espadon drillship design. "The Jurong Espadon drillship represents the next generation of high-specifi cation drillships with advanced capabilities for operational efficiency and ultra-deepwater operations worldwide," Sembcorp Marine said. "The drillship will be equipped with state-of-the-art drilling facilities, a larger deck area with a 40 meter wide main deck, efficient deck arrangement and a large moon pool for enhanced drilling operations as well as DP-3 (Dynamic Positioning class 3) capabilities, superior motion features and Azimuth thrusters for improved operability." It is capable of operating at 3,000 metres of water depth and drilling to depths of 13,000 metres. It will have accommodation facilities to house a crew of 180 personnel. Scheduled for delivery no later than the second quarter of 2015, the ultra-deepwater drillship will be among a series of drillships to be built in Brazil to cater to the recent oil and gas discoveries in the offshore giant pre-salt fi elds. Mr Wong Weng Sun, President and chief executive offi cer of Sembcorp Marine said “This is a very significant milestone as this order not only represents the first drillship that our group is building for Brazil but it is also the first project secured by our new shipyard in Aracruz. We believe this order will be the first of many orders in Sete Brasil’s ambitious drillship expansion programme to develop the giant Brazilian pre-salt oil fi elds.” Sete Brasil is a Brazilian company established in December 2010 and formed by seven Brazilian finance investors, including banks and the four biggest Brazilian pension funds, besides Brazilian oil group Petrobras. Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jurong Shipyard and the Sembcorp Marine group’s fi rst overseas integrated New Yard Facility in the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil. The yard held its ground breaking ceremony for construction in December 2011. The 82.5 hectare Integrated New Brazilian Yard Facility will be con-structed on over a period of three years and in stages with full completion scheduled for end 2014 with preliminary projection of the development costs of the integrated new brazilian yard facility estimated to be around US$550 million.
