Meyer Werft to build a fifth Quantum-class vessel

Sister vessel Anthem of the Seas was delivered to RCL in spring

U.S. cruise line Royal Caribbean Cruises said it has placed an order with German yard Meyer Werft for a fifth Quantum-class ship of 168,600 gt for 4,100 passengers.

It will be delivered in autumn 2020. It will be a repeat of the Royal Caribbean cruise ships Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas ordered from Meyer Werft which measure 347m in length, 41m in breadth and are currently the second largest cruise ship type in the world, Meyer Werft said. The vessels have 2,090 cabins and large suites. “These ships have been received with excitement, and performed exceptionally well, across the globe,” said Mr Richard D. Fain, Chairman and chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises. “We fully expect that momentum to continue as we add to this innovative class of ships.” Royal Caribbean said its current shipbuilding programme will provide capacity increases for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 expected to be 5.4%, 6.4%, 3.4%, 3.7% and 6.6% respectively.
