BLRT signed LOI for a further ferry

Estonian yard BLRT group has signed a letter of intent to design and build a fourth large ferry for Estonian shipping company Saaremaa Laevakompanii (Saaremaa Shipping Company, SLK).

The vessel will be 93 meters long and carry approximately 160 cars and 400 to 600 passengers. The contract in-cludes an option to order for two more ferries of the same class with increased icebreaking capability. Finance will be provided by Swedbank. The ferry will be used for SLK’s island routes.
The letter of intent was signed by SLK’s supervisory board chairman Vjatseslav Leedo, BLRT Grupp chief executive officer Fjodor Berman and the director general of Swedbank in Estonia, Priit Perens, the companies said. Leedo said SLK needs a fourth large vessel as three ships are no longer enough to serve the routes to Estonia’s two largest islands. Confirmation of the letter of intent depends on reaching agreement about the price, completing the necessary documents and getting approvals from the supervisory boards.
