Spanish state-owned shipbuilding corporation, Navantia, has chosen Siemens Digital Industries Software for the digitalisation of its shipbuilding processes. A fundamental component of the contract will be the use of Siemens’ Xcelerator platform to create a digital twin for Navantia’s new F-110 Frigate progamme, as required by the Spanish Navy.

Other aspects of the deal will require the implementation of various software systems within the Xcelerator portfolio including NXTM software, the Teamcenter® portfolio, the Siemens OpCenterTM system and Simcenter software. Meanwhile, the Tecnomatix® portfolio will cover the entire lifecycle of vessels and the cloud-based, open IoT operating system, MindSphere®, will be used for detailed data analysis.

Siemens won the contract because it was the only supplier to provide an end-to-end digital process covering the entire lifecycle of vessels. Part of the contract will also entail the creation of a Center of Excellence of the Naval Industry in Galicia.
