Milaha to undertake 18-month upgrade of repair facilities

Milaha shipyard is to be upgraded to reach an increased capacity and efficiency in handling ship repair works of larger and more complex size

The shipyard, originally established in 1978, is well-known to both regional and international ship operators but an upgrade of the facilities is now required in preparation for further growth in current markets and expansion into new areas of operation, the company said.
Milaha’s President and CEO, Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai, said: "The phased upgrade plan for our shipyard is being done to support our business strategy and to increase the shipyard’s market share in four diversified target market sectors, all with minimal disruption to the ongoing operations at the facility. When completed, the shipyard will have an increased capacity and efficiency in handling ship repair works of larger and more complex size. The planned upgrades include a new larger floating dock, larger and enhanced workshops and an overall revamping of the facilities."
The upgrade project is due to start early in 2019 and will be completed by the third quarter of 2020.

Qatar’s Milaha has signed up Royal HaskoningDHV, an international project management and engineering consultancy, to develop plans for an 18-month upgrade of its shipyard facilities.
