Ki-tack Lim elected as IMO Secretary-General

Ki-tack Lim will be the eighth elected Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization

The vote took place during the recent 114th session of the 40-member strong IMO Council. The decision of the Council will be submitted to the IMO Assembly, which will meet for its 29th session from November 23rd to December 2nd 2015, for approval.
Lim is currently president of the Busan Port Authority. He served as South Korea’s deputy permanent representative to IMO from 2006 to 2009 and was chairman of the sub-committee on Flag State Implementation from 2002 to 2004.
Lim follows Koji Sekimizu from Japan, who was appointed Secretary-General in 2011 for the period from January 1st 2012 to December 31st 2015.

Ki-tack Lim from South Korea has been elected as Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), effective January 1st 2016, for an initial term of four years.
