Hamburger Hafen und Logistic (HHLA) has handled just over 3.17 million TEU over the first half of the year compared with 2.94 million in the corresponding period a year earlier, and increase of 7.9%.

Despite geopolitical conflicts, growing uncertainty caused by US trade policy, and a weak economy at home, the port and transport logistics company increased revenue by 16.3% to EUR 884.5 million. Earnings before interest and tax increased by an even wider margin of 34.8% to EUR 79.4 million compared with EUR 58.9 million.

Road and rail transport also rose by significant margins. Rail volume growth, largely due to traffic with the North German and Adriatic sea ports, rose by 20.3% to 863,000 TEU and road transport climbed 16% to 133,000 TEU.

The company’s CEO, Angela Titzrath, said: “Despite geopolitical tension and economic uncertainty, HHLA fared very successfully in the first half of 2025. The Intermodal segment recorded particularly strong revenue growth thanks to an increase in road and rail transport. Container handling at the terminals also rose significantly. This underscores the effectiveness of our integrated Europe-wide logistics solutions. Our performance also demonstrates that HHLA is well placed to navigate safely through an environment that remains volatile – and to continue its growth as it looks to the future.”
