Harren & Partner launches SAL Renewables with
Wind Lift 1

The Wind Lift I was recently deployed by SAL for a hydraulic hammer test as part of an offshore wind project in the North Sea

Bremen-based Harren & Partner has boosted its offshore wind capability with the launch of SAL Renewables as a sister company to SAL Heavy Lift, and the commissioning of a 2010-built jack-up vessel, Wind Lift 1, for offshore maintenance and turbine installation.

The dynamically positioned Wind Lift 1 is a versatile asset with a strong track record in the field, the company said. It has a 500-tonne, high-outreach crane and accommodation for up to 50 people. The unit was recently deployed in a hydraulic hammer test at a North Sea offshore wind site and, despite challenging weather, fulfilled project requirements perfectly.

Commenting on the vessel, SAL Renewables managing director, Heiko Felderhoff said: “Wind Lift 1 represents an important enhancement of our fleet. It extends our scope of action to provide our customers with comprehensive, yet customised solutions. Wind Lift 1 is a highly adaptable vessel – this asset makes for a great start for our new venture with SAL Renewables.”

The new company’s head of Projects, Matthieu Moerman, added: “Megawatts capacity of wind parks keep increasing and old wind parks will need to be renewed with new turbines or decommissioned. With Wind Lift 1, we are not only targeting the installation and maintenance market, but also decommissioning and upgrading of old existing wind parks.”
