Germany’s L’Orange acquires fuel injection specialist Fluid Mechanics

Fluid Mechanics' facilities

Stuttgart-based L’Orange, a Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary and a specialist in electronically controlled, high-pressure injection technology for diesel and heavy fuel oil engines, has bought Fluid Dynamics of the United States, also a leading supplier of fuel injection systems in the sector. Fluid Mechanics will continue to operate under its own brand and with its own personnel.

Olav Altmann, who is head of sales at L’Orange, believes that the acquisition makes eminently good sense for both companies and sees the new operation as “an ideal fit”, providing a perfect starting point for expansion in North America’s maritime engine sector.
“In China, we laid the foundations for the Asian market in 2009 with the opening of our office in Suzhou and now we are doing the same in the Americas with our long-term distribution partner in the US, building on our many years of experience with Fluid Mechanics and on its solid market presence,” Altmann declared.
Fort Lauderdale’s buoyant cruise sector is an important market for Fluid Mechanics which is based in Avon Lake, Cleveland. However, the company is planning to expand its market presence on both the east and west coasts, as well as in Canada and South America.
Herwig Flug, formerly L’Orange’s senior manager production common rail injectors, has been appointed president and CEO of Fluid Mechanics.
