Fabrication joint venture to support energy development in Qatar

The aim is to increase productivity at N-KOM’s Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard and develop more local capacity for the construction of land-based and offshore structures.
The new joint venture is set up at an auspicious time and comes after the country announced that it plans to raise LNG production from 77 million to 110 million tonnes over the next few years. It also revealed that the size of Nakilat’s present fleet of about 60 LNG tankers is to be doubled, with new contracts likely to be placed at the three heavyweight South Korean shipbuilders – Hyundai, Daewoo and Samsung.

Nakilat, the world’s largest owner of LNG tankers, and McDermott, a multinational engineering group, have announced a new joint venture to provide on- and offshore fabrication services in Qatar.
