Spain’s Astander works on two TSHDs for Belgian and Dutch owners

Spanish ship repairer Astander (Astilleros de Santander) has recently shown off its skills in the demanding world of the drydocking and repair of trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs), successfully completing work on the Boskalis-owned Medway and now completing work on DEME’s Pallieter.

Repairs to TSHDs is always demanding, due to the harsh working environment of these workhorses, and requires specialist skills in maintaining specialist dredge equipment and hydraulic systems.

The Dutch-owned 7,350m3 capacity 2012-built Medway is now back in service after spending two months at the northern Spanish yard, while the Belgian-owned, 5,230m3 capacity 2004-built Pallieter was still in drydock on March 28th.

Meanwhile, at ASTANDER’s sister repair yard in Las Palmas, Canary Islands on March 28th, ASTICAN (Astilleros de Canarios) was working on the following vessels at its Syncrolift shiplift and transfer facility:

 

  • Ieva Simonaityte – 7,765gt 1989-built fish factory vessel, owned by Russia’s Murmansk Trawler Fleet
  • Pilot Whale – 3,834gt 1980-buiolt fish factory vessel, owned by Russia’s Alians Marin, St. Petersburg and managed by Lithuania’s Alliance Marine, Klaipeda
  • Fugro Resolve – 3,956dwt 2015-built PSV, owned by Holland’s Fugro Offshore
  • Paul A Sacuta – 6,422gt 2017-built PSV, owned by Canada’s Atlantic Towing, Saint John’s, Newfoundland
  • 7 Oceans – 370gt 2014-built research/survey vessels. Owners not known
  • Bos Prime – 3,828dwt 2015-built OSV. Previously owned by Holland’s Vroon Offshore
  • Aurora Sapphire – 3,832gt 2013-built OSV, owned by Norway’s Aurora Offshore, Kristiansand
