Meyer Werft clinches new Carnival cruise contract

Meyer Werft has won a new order from Carnival Corporation & plc for a sister ship to the 6,500-passenger Carnival Jubilee, delivered in 2023. The 180,000-gt ship, with a length of 344m, is due for delivery in 2027. It will be powered by LNG and will have capacity for a similar number of people.

Since 2018, Meyer Werft and Meyer Turku have built nine cruise ships with LNG propulsion, on a joint technical platform, for four cruise lines in the Carnival Corporation portfolio. This ship will also be built on this platform, the companies said.

“We are very pleased that the partnership between Meyer Group and Carnival Corporation will continue with this new order,” declared Bernd Eikens, CEO of Meyer Group.

Carnival Corporation’s CEO, Josh Weinstein, said: “This order is a clear sign that the cruise market has recovered and that there is great demand for sea voyages. Building on our strong performance and growing momentum around the world, we are excited to resume our newbuild programme and work to further enhance our global fleet with yet another state-of-the-art Meyer Werft ship that will wow Carnival Cruise Line’s guests.”

The latest order is a boost for Meyer Werft, helping to secure jobs and work for partner companies. The company’s order book now comprises five cruise ships, one research vessel, and steel components for four offshore converter platforms.
