Fuel specialists cut MGO emissions

Piraeus-headquartered marine fuel company, Baseblue, and bunker supplier Bunker One said they have achieved a greenhouse gas reduction of close to 70% in marine gas oil. Working together with Netherlands-based Wagenborg Shipping, with a fleet of around 170 multi-purpose vessels, the companies are now focusing on International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISSC) and European Union accreditation.
The fuel consignment was delivered in October. Now, the three companies are working together to set new standards for sustainable fuel delivery.
Seabstian Verstappen, Wagenborg Shipping’s Bunker Procurement manager, said: “Reducing CO2 is one of our key priorities. In close cooperation with our customers, we are exploring the potential of co-processed fuels. We believe, on the short term, it is one of the easiest ways to reduce our environmental impact and overachieve our CO2 reduction targets.”
Baseblue’s Groningen office sales manager, Patrick Benink, commented: “This collaboration underlines our commitment to environmental sustainability in the maritime sector. We’re taking steps to lead the way towards a greener future for shipping.”
