ClassNK adds features to GHG management tool

ClassNK has released new features for its GHG Emissions Management Tool, ClassNK ZETA (Zero Emission Transition Accelerator). Already in use on more than 5,000 ships, ClassNK ZETA uses data submitted to ClassNK MRV Portal, a system for reporting fuel consumption that meets IMO Data Collection System and EU Monitoring Reporting and Verification requirements.

ClassNK ZETA provides accurate current status and simulation for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships and supports response to various emission reduction requirements.

The first new feature – EU-ETS Management – displays GHG emissions for an entire fleet as well as individual ships that are subject to the EU’s Emissions Trading System. It also manages allowances held by the company and visualises likely emissions, enabling strategic consideration of measures including the  purchasing of emission allowances.

The second feature – BIMCO CII Clause Vessel Monitoring – relates to the CII target agreed between shipowner and charterer based on BIMCO’s CII Operations Clause for Time Charter Parties. It enables real-time monitoring of attained CII, simulates changes by ship speed, and can be used to plan operations to meet the agreed CII rating target.

Announcing the new features, the classification society said that it will continue its drive to enhance tools to support GHG emissions management. More functionality is likely, for example, in preparation for the FuelEU Maritime regulation, due to enter force for EU-related voyages from 2025.
