The Port of Skagen and Maersk subsidiary, Stillstrom, an offshore charging specialist, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide offshore power and charging systems at the Skagen anchorage. One of the busiest stopovers in northern Europe, the Skagen anchorage lies immediately to the east of the Port of Skagen in north Denmark.

Since 2020, more than 3,800 ships have called at the Anchorage for at least six hours. This has generated 66,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year according to estimates by Marine Benchmark AB, a data analyst.

Willy Bent Hansen, managing director at the Port of Skagen, commented: “The partnership between the Port of Skagen and Stillstrom represents a significant step towards decarbonising the anchorage zone and reducing emissions near the coast and city. We are always looking for ways to support the decarbonisation of the maritime sector.”

Stillstrom CEO, Kristian Borum Jørgensen, said: “We are excited to work with the Port of Skagen, and this collaboration truly embodies our commitment to driving innovation and sustainability for the maritime sector. By working closely with Port of Skagen, we can collectively address the decarbonisation opportunity as well as explore ways to minimise emissions to the benefit of the local community.”
