Damen has delivered a Multi Cat 1908 SD to energy infrastructure company, Bohlen & Doyen Bau GmbH, just one month after contract signing. The 19.4m-long Scholle will fulfil a wide variety of support tasks in Germany’s coastal waters for transmission system operator, TenneT, working on the company’s offshore grid connection systems in the North Sea.

The Scholle will push and pull barges, supply fuel and water, transport equipment and personnel to and from working areas, and undertake lifting operations. Its 1m draught will enable it to operate in waters that are inaccessible to most other support craft.

Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld already had a series-produced vessel in stock, with the hull having been built in the shipbuilder’s Polish facility, Damen Shipyards Kożle. In the month between contract signing and delivery, the stock-built vessel was tailored to fit Bohlen & Doyen’s requirements.

It was fitted with a towing hook, a wooden bulwark between the pushbows, and additional lashing points. A cooling radiator will now ensure that the vessel’s generator can provide power while the vessel is beached, and Panolin GreenMarine biodegradable hydraulic oil will enable it to operate in the Wadden Sea.

Tim Hameister, Bohlen & Doyen chief financial officer, commented: "We are very pleased to add this ultra-shallow draught vessel to our fleet, providing us with an even wider range of applications in our hydraulic engineering department. In particular, the very short delivery time and the quick implementation of our special requests by Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld convinced us."

Damen’s Joschka Böddeling, North-West Europe Sales manager, said: "Bohlen & Doyen has been active in energy infrastructure construction for over 70 years and we are very pleased that they have come to us for their first vessel in a long time. We are confident that they will find it a valuable addition to their asset portfolio, capable of undertaking a wide range of activities wherever there is water."

The Scholle will fly the German flag.
