Bourbon Mobility, an offshore passenger transport company and a subsidiary of the Marseille-based Bourbon Group, has ordered six new crew boats at Chantiers Piriou in Vietnam. The 27m-long Surfer-type vessels are expected to consume 20% less fuel than existing units.

The 30-knot Surfers will be capChantiers Piriou in Vietnamable of transporting 50-70 passengers, depending on configuration, with two deck spaces for cargo – 40m2 at the stern and 20m2 towards the bow. They will have a real-time fuel consumption data analysis capability to optimise engine operating parameters, the company said.

The energy performance is the result of a research and development project undertaken jointly by Bourbon Mobility teams and French ship design firm, Mauric. The experts focused on optimising the vessel’s hydrodynamic lines and propulsion systems.

Bourbon Mobility CEO, François Leslé, said: “This order of six Surfers illustrates our commitment to decarbonise our operations and provide innovation solutions to our customers. This order is the reward of hard work by our R&D teams, whom I congratulate, and significant investment by the Group in new technologies to the benefit of our customers. I also want to highlight the unfailing commitment of our partners in this project, Mauric and Piriou.”

The vessels are due for delivery next year.
