Bergen-based chemical tanker giant Odfjell has awarded a three-ship drydocking and repair contract to China’s Chengxi Shipyard. The vessels in question are the 46,098dwt Bow Elm, the 49,622dwt Bow Trident and the 49,622dwt Bow Trajectory.

A major part of each chemical tankers refit will include the application of US-based Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC) MarineLINE tank coating, replacing the vessel’s original zinc coatings in cargo tanks.

The first vessel to drydock, in March, is the 2011-built Bow Elm and will have MarineLINE applied to six of her 29 cargo tanks. This follows earlier recoating work on the chemical tanker by APC in 2021.

The second vessel to be recoated is the 2014-built Bow Trajectory, with eight of its 22 cargo tanks being coated with MarineLINE. Meanwhile, the 2014-built Bow Trident will undergo recoating work on all of her 22 cargo tanks, from zinc to MarineLINE.

Work on all three Odfjell chemical tankers will be completed by July this year. The Norwegian chemical tanker operator began replacing zinc coatings in the cargo tanks of its fleet with MarineLINE in 2019.
