Accelleron announces digital tie-up with Furuno

Accelleron’s Japanese joint venture company, Turbo Systems United, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nagasaki-based Furuno Electric Co to optimise engine performance through a new digitally enabled service.

The agreement will promote the use of Accelleron digital systems via the Furuno Open Platform, a shipboard data collection setup. These will include Accelleron’s Tekomar Xpert engine optimisation system designed to improve engine performance and currently installed on some 9,700 engines on more than 2,400 vessels.

Meanwhile, Turbo MarineCare is a data-enabled service agreement for Accelleron turbochargers designed to provide financial predictability though fixed maintenance costs and a continuous warranty on standard parts wear and tear, overhaul, and related labour costs. This will also be available on the platform.

Furuno general manager, Digitalization Promotion Department, Keisuke Kitamura, said: “In recent years, value creation through co-creation and collaborative activities by companies from different industries has been progressing in the shipping industry. Through this collaboration, the two companies will make maximum use of their strengths and knowledge to provide data insights to the customers.”

Yoshimasa Wakasa, Turbo Systems United executive director and head of New Product Sales, commented: “The synergy between Accelleron’s digital solutions and Furuno’s open platform will help customers of both companies to find greater value from their data, supporting their decarbonisation efforts and improving operational efficiency. We are pleased to strengthen our collaboration with Furuno through this agreement.”
