Norwegian software firm UniSea is transforming drydock project planning with its Maindeck price quotation portal. Now adopted by over 70 shipyards worldwide, the platform streamlines tendering and brings greater accuracy to yard evaluation – potentially saving shipowners substantial time and costs.
“Gaining an accurate picture of dry-docking pricing during the tendering phase and minimising these costs through a precise yard evaluation process is vital given that expenses associated with technical projects can account for 80-90% of a vessel’s lifecycle maintenance costs,” said UniSea CEO Kurt Roar Vilhelmsen.
The cloud-based system standardises quotation formats and allows shipyards to submit customised price proposals. Automatic population of a comparison matrix eliminates the need for manual input, reducing errors and administrative burden. Revised quotes are also automatically integrated, making updates seamless.
Scandlines’ Nautical superintendent Pit Lorenz praised the platform: “It consolidates all yard pricing in one space, helping us avoid missed quotes and streamline decision-making.”
Among the first users is BLRT Repair Yards’ Western Shiprepair in Lithuania, whose head of Key Accounts, Gabrielus Jasas, noted: “We were impressed by the quotation portal from UniSea Maindeck. We have seen many different portals over the years, but this is the first one we've been able to effectively use. When we receive requests for quotations via Maindeck, we're happy to respond through the platform.”
With its offline functionality, integrated reporting, and clear structural flexibility, Maindeck is poised to become the industry standard for managing dry-docking quotations with speed, clarity, and control.
