Seaquantum X200 verified by DNV with lowest industry speed loss

Jotun’s antifouling coating SeaQuantum X200 has been verified by DNV with an average vessel speed loss of 1% over a full dock-to-dock cycle, which the classification society says is the lowest result it has confirmed under ISO 19030 performance standards. The verification assessed four years of in-service data from 41 vessels across medium and high-activity trades, measuring performance against the first year after dry docking.
SeaQuantum X200 is part of Jotun’s Hull Performance Solutions and has been applied to about 2,500 vessels over the past 15 years. According to Jotun, the verified performance represents a significant improvement compared with the industry average speed loss of 5.9%, which corresponds to a 17.7% drop in hydrodynamic efficiency. The company says the X200’s 1% speed loss equates to only a 3% efficiency loss, delivering a 14.7% reduction in fuel consumption versus the industry baseline.
“SeaQuantum X200 is Jotun’s flagship SeaQuantum antifouling,” said Habibe Escobar, category manager at Jotun. “An average speed loss of 1.0% really pushes the boundaries of what an antifouling can deliver.”
DNV said the data showed sustained hull performance, with reduced hull resistance over time contributing to lower fuel use and CO2 emissions.
