Stena Line makes another onshore power connection in Oslo

The onshore power supply unit was inaugurated on January 8th 2019

The cruise ferry, which is deployed on the route between Oslo and Frederikshavn in Denmark, will now use onshore power during its frequent calls in Oslo. The new power facilities will contributing to a total fuel saving of 1,400 tonnes a year, equivalent to an annual reduction in the CO2 emissions of 1,300 cars.
"The completion of yet another onshore power supply connection in the Port of Oslo is an important milestone in our efforts to reduce emissions and we are now closing in on our target of connection 25% of our terminals in 2020," said Stena’s Erik Lewenhaupt, head of Sustainability, Brand and Communication. "Many of our vessels call at locations close to cities which makes it especially important to be able to shut down when docked."
Stena Line has worked with onshore power supplies for almost 30 years and now has 14 of its 38 vessels capable of using shore-generated electricity when in port.
Oslo has been awarded European Green Capital 2019 status in recognition of its initiatives to improve sustainability and cut emissions.

The 1981-built Stena Saga connected to onshore power facilities inaugurated in Oslo last week making Stena Line the first ferry company to connect to the new power supplies.
