Nakilat and Angelicoussis set up LNG joint venture

Shipping company John Angelicoussis’ Maran Ventures Inc. and Qatari energy transportation company Nakilat, the world’s largest owner of LNG carriers, have established a new joint venture in which Nakilat holds a 60% stake.

The joint venture company, called Global Shipping Co. Ltd, has four LNG carriers under construction in South Korea. On delivery, they will bring Nakilat’s effectively controlled fleet to 74 vessels, equivalent to more than 11% of global LNG carrying capacity.
Two of the four 173,400m3 vessels will have MAN Energy Solutions’ ME-GI engines whilst the other two will have WinGD X-DF propulsion systems. The ships will be managed and marketed by Nakilat.
John Angelicoussis, Maran Ventures chairman, said: “Nakilat has been one of our strategic partners for many years and we are pleased to be strengthening our relationship with them. Through this new venture, I am confident that we will continue to provide first-class service together for all our LNG customers around the world and look forward to further collaborations in the future.”
