Hong Kong-based Wah Kwong Maritime Transport and Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) have celebrated the delivery of the Long Range 2 (LR2) tanker, Frontier Venture, the first in a series of new tankers with “augmented ship” features that integrate shipboard digital systems with shore-based support.
The 114,000dwt tanker, built to BV class at Hengli Shipyard in China, is powered by an LNG-ready Everllence B&W main engine and meets EEDI Phase III requirements. A second LR2 tanker is due for delivery in July.
The Frontier Venture has been assigned SMART notations which cover features including machinery condition monitoring and energy efficiency optimisation. The “augmented ship” description covers links between ship and shore which enable early detection of any machine-related anomalies and recommendations on potential operational adjustments.
Wah Kwong chairman, Hing Chao, said: “The SMART notations awarded to our first LR2 mark a key milestone in our long‑term partnership with Bureau Veritas and demonstrate how we translate innovation into fleet‑wide progress. BV continues to set a higher bar for the governance of digital capability, and together we have advanced through the SMART framework in recent years, ensuring that data‑driven insights are effectively embedded in operations on board and ashore.”
