The 168m-long vessel will comply with the IMO’s Polar Code and will carry liquid and solid cargoes including krill products from krill harvesting vessels working in the region.
The Wärtsilä supply package will include a four-stroke Wärtsilä 31 engine and two Wärtsilä 20 auxiliary engines, all fitted with the company’s NOx Reducer. Wärtsilä will also supply a power distribution system, including hybrid drives and a battery package, a gearbox, controllable pitch propeller and thrusters. Efficient and safe handling will be supported by a Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum Joystick system.
The vessel is expected to be ready for the 2021 krill harvesting season, the company said.

A 20,300dwt cargo vessel to be built for Aker BioMarine and deployment in Antarctic waters, is to be designed and equipped by Finnish technology group, Wärtsilä.
