Wärtsilä Gas Solutions has won a contract from GSX Energy to supply cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for four LNG bunkering vessels under construction at China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering shipyard. GSX Energy is a joint venture partnership between SeaKapital Holdings, Hong Kong-listed Seacon Shipping, and Greek dry bulk owner Golden Union.
The company has already established a relationship with the Chinese yard, having supplied similar cargo and fuel gas systems for a series of small-scale LNG carriers, LPG carriers, ethane/ethylene, and multi-gas carriers. In addition to the hardware, which will start to be delivered from December, Wärtsilä will engineer and design the systems.
Barry Yang, sales manager China at Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, commented: “As we see LNG as an enabler of a greener future for shipping, our cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems deliver efficient support for bunkering vessels serving LNG-fuelled ships. The total cargo handling and fuel gas supply package by Wärtsilä represents a flexible and well-proven solution for operational efficiency.”
The contract comes against a backdrop of rising demand for LNG bunkering vessels to service the more than 1,150 dual-fuel vessels likely to be operating worldwide by 2028.
