The new vessel will have a length of 178.80m and a beam of 26.20m. The 11,060-dwt vessel will have 2,600 lanemetres of roro capacity with a 200-tonnes stern ramp. It will have hoistable car decks and two 40 tonne deck cranes. Maximum speed will be 20 knots. “This order kicks off Nordana’s tonnage renewal programme for its Mediterranean/Americas roro service, and it is expected that the fleet can be fully replaced by the end of 2014, whereafter it will operate with three fully modern and very eco-friendly roro vessels,” Nordana said. The ship design has been developed by the Visentini yard and Naos ship design in cooperation with Nordana.
The vessel hull design and machinery is said to set new standards for fuel economy and includes the latest proven achievements to be applied to limit sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, performance standard for protective coating and ballast water treatment. The vessel will increase the capacity about 35 percent compared to present tonnage, and the higher service speeds will allow the service to provide faster transit times to all the main ports served, while reducing fuel costs due to higher engine efficiency.

Danish shipping company Nordana said it has ordered a multipurpose roro freighter from Italian yard Visentini. It will be delivered in May 2014.
