US tugboat operator chooses Schottel Rudderpropellers

More than 1,000 SRP 460 and 490 azimuth thrusters have now been sold, making them the most successful azimuth thrusters worldwide, Schottel says

Two type SRP 490 Rudderpropellers with an input power of 2,525 kW each will provide an expected bollard pull of about 82 tons.
The tug’s propulsion set-up will consist of a pair of Caterpillar CAT 3516 engines, each driving the Schottel azimuthing stern drive units with fixed-pitch propellers of 2.8m diameter. The azimuth stern drive tug will undertake harbour and terminal operations as well as coastal towing.
The two companies have collaborated for more than 30 years since Schottel fulfilled its first contract with the US firm. Since then, the Germany company has supplied McAllister with more than 70 azimuth thrusters.

Germany’s Schottel has won another contract from US tug operator, McAllister Towing, to supply two of its Rudderpropellers for an escort and harbour tug that is being built at Washburn & Doughty shipyard in Maine, United States.
