TotalEnergies to add fourth LNG bunker vessel
The vessel will take the energy company’s fleet of LNG bunker ships to four units. The Gas Agility operates in Rotterdam; the Gas Vitality supplies fuel in Marseille; and the Brassavola is on station in Singapore.
Although no final decision has yet been taken, the company said that the new ship could be deployed in Oman, where the Marsa LNG plant is being built. The facility, with a production capacity of one million tonnes a year, will be powered entirely by renewable electricity and is due on stream early in 2028.
Louise Tricoire, TotalEnergies’ senior vice president, Aviation and Marine Fuels, commented: “We are very proud of this agreement with Ibaizabal, which reinforces our position as a main player in LNG bunkering. With new LNG-fuelled vessels coming on stream at a rapid pace, we are committed to playing our part in responding to the sector’s increasing demand for this fuel which can help global shipping meet its decarbonisation ambitions.”
Jorge Zickermann, CEO of the Getxo-based shipping company near Bilbao, said: “Ibaizabal is honoured to be chosen to carry out this project as it falls within our strategy of decarbonising the maritime industry, together with a leading company in the LNG field, while enhancing the already long-term relationship in shipping with TotalEnergies.”
