Singapore-based Strategic Marine has revealed design details of its latest generation of fast crew boats. Its new Aluminium 42m Gen 4 Fast Crew Boat incorporates a range of new features which can expand operating capabilities, improve safety, raise comfort levels and lower environmental impact, the company said. Its flexible design – with a range of options – will enable the vessel to be adapted for a range of operational functions. These will include offshore energy support, security operations, and safety and emergency response. A new hull form, developed with computational fluid dynamics analysis and model testing, has enabled hull resistance to be reduced by 8%, the company said, compared with the Gen 3 series. Meanwhile, a Z-bow improves seakeeping and requires less power for the same speed and deadweight.

The vessel has a clear deck area of 140m2, a cargo deck area of 120m2, a deadweight of 190 tonnes, and business class seating for between 80 and 100 passengers. There is also space for twelve crew members in seven berths and a medical room/office.

Some of the options include motion compensation, a gyro stabiliser, active ride control, hybrid propulsion, bow thrusters, and a selective catalytic reduction system for IMO Tier III compliance. Dynamic positioning is another possible option.

Strategic Marine CEO, Chan Eng Yew, commented: “Each new vessel design is based on our goal of continuous improvement, whilst exceeding our customers’ needs, operationally and environmentally. Strategic Marine has considerable experience in building boats for this market, having been doing so since 2001, with more than 70 fast crew boats delivered.”
