Sembcorp and De Nora sign MoU on ballast water retrofits

Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine and De Nora Water Technologies of Italy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the supply and installation of Balpure® ballast water treatment systems.

Sembcorp will provide a turnkey package for the patented electro-chlorination systems including project management, vessel survey, integration design engineering, equipment selection and retrofit installation. De Nora will support Sembcorp with training on the installation and operation of systems.
The Balpure system is well-suited to large vessels with high ballast flow rates, according to De Nora, and this latest agreement will enable Sembcorp to offer both UV and electro-chlorination systems on a full turnkey end-to-end supply and installation basis. The shipyard should therefore be able to meet the needs of the majority of shipowners, it is claimed.
The Balpure system has IMO type approval and US Coast Guard AMS acceptance and is currently proceeding through land-based and shipboard testing for compliance with US Coast Guard legislation and renewal of its IMO certification.
