Sanmar delivers new escort tug
Sanmar Shipyards has delivered a high-powered escort tug, Pellegron, to Italy’s Rimorchiatori Laziali, part of the Cafimar group. The vessel will be deployed on escort, ship manoeuvring, and towage operations in Middle Eastern waters.
Based on the exclusive-to-Sanmar RAstar 3200SX design developed by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd., the 32m-long tug has twin Z-drive diesels developing power of around 6,800 bhp for a bollard pull of 80 tonnes. The tug, which has a carbon dioxide emissions reduction system meeting IMO Tier III requirements, will have a free-running speed ahead of 13 knots.
The Pellegron is equipped for operations over the bow and stern, with a powerful escort winch at the bow for escorting and ship handling operations and a towing winch, towing pins, and rounded transom at the stern for towing. Built to RINA class, the vessel has Fi-Fi 1 fire-fighting capability and a crew of ten.
Sanmar’s commercial director, Rüçhan Çivgin, commented: “Our Kocaçay class tugs have been specifically designed to allow customisation requests from customers to be easily accommodated. We work closely with clients throughout the design, construction, and trialling stages to ensure these high-power tugs meet specific operational needs.”
