Sallaum orders two, option two, large car carriers

Cyprus-based RoRo owner, Sallaum Lines, has signed up with Xiamen Shipbuilding in China for two, option two, 8,600-CEU pure car truck carriers (PCTCs). The vessels will be the shipowner’s largest so far.

With five liftable decks, the 200m-long PCTCs will have significant cargo flexibility, ranging from cars to light commercial vehicles, trucks, heavy rolling equipment, and project cargo. They are designed to maximise cargo intake while preserving port compatibility.

The ships will have multi-fuel engines suitable for LNG, very low sulphur fuel oil and marine gas oil. They will also be ‘ammonia-ready’ and capable of future conversion for green ammonia when the fuel becomes available at scale.

The order follows the recent delivery of the company’s new 7,400-CEU LNG dual-fuel ships and marks the next step in the company’s fleet renewal and expansion strategy.
