Swiss-based RoRo operator, Sallaum Lines, has taken delivery of the pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), Ocean Explorer, which has a capacity of 7,500 car equivalent units (CEU). Built at the Chinese yard, Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Ltd, the 200m-long dual-fuel LNG vessel, second in the company’s Ocean Class, follows a sistership, Ocean Breeze, delivered in July last year. The ships each have 13 decks.
Delivery of the second vessel from the shipyard leaves Sallaum Lines with four more similarly sized PCTCs under construction at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu). The company also holds two options at the Jinling yard.
The six new vessels, plus options, will more than double the vehicle carrier’s fleet. The company’s seven existing ships have capacities ranging from 4,000 CEU to 5,140 CEU.
Commenting on the latest delivery, managing director Hasan Sallaum, said: “With the delivery of Ocean Explorer, we are proud to take another bold step toward a more sustainable future for maritime transport. This vessel reflects our ongoing investment in cleaner technologies and our dedication to providing reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible shipping solutions to our global partners.”
Sallaum Lines transports cars, trucks and projects cargoes on routes linking Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the US.
