RoRo floated at Cammell Laird

The vessel will officially join the fleet on arrival in Southampton, and enter service in May, following a trials and training period

The GBP 10 million vessel, about to commence trials and a training period for personnel, is the first RoRo dedicated to freight traffic in Red Funnel’s almost 200-year-long history.
The 74m-long vessel, with a capacity of 265 lane metres and scope to carry up to 12 passengers, has Rolls-Royce azimuth thrusters and a fuel-efficient propulsion package that complies with latest Tier III emission regulations. Its hull has been specially designed to limit wash on the 55-60-minute crossing over the Solent between Southampton and East Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Isle of Wight ferry operator, Red Funnel, and Merseyside shipbuilder, Cammell Laird, recently staged the ‘float-off’ of a new freight-only RoRo ferry that is due to enter service in May.
