Netherlands-based heavy-lift shipping company, Roll Group, has ordered two new heavy-lift barges at an unnamed shipyard in Indonesia. The barges, which will be classed by DNV, will be 85.2m long, 27.4m wide, with a design draft of 4.8m.

The 9,350dwt units will have a capacity of up to 20 tonnes per square metre over their flat decks. With robust ballasting systems, their low draft will ensure that they can ship heavy and oversized project cargoes in shallow waters.

Although the barges will fly the Indonesian flag, they are intended for projects around the world. The company has a wide range of projects currently in progress in Asia and the Middle East. The units are due for delivery towards the end of this year.

Roll Group has strategic hubs in Rotterdam, Houston, and Singapore. The 20-year-old company has previously had dealings with ASL Shipyard in Batam, Indonesia, which also has yards in Singapore and China.
