Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines said it has ordered a tug fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Japan’s Kanagawa Dockyard.

The new tug will be deployed in Osaka Bay in April 2019. It will be equipped with high-performance dual-fuel Yanmar engines which allow high-speed operation and better environmental protection. Osaka Gas Co., Ltd will supply LNG. The tug is part of the MOL Smart Ship Project "ISHIN NEXT". Knowledge and expertise gained through the tug’s development and operation will be fed back to various types of LNG-fuelled ships being developed for Mitsui.
