The Norwegian port of Bergen has ordered a work and security boat with hybrid power from Norwegian yard Maritime Partner AS.

The vessel of type Alusafe 1500 MPV will use diesel propulsion for long-range/high-speed sailings and electric/battery propulsion for slower speeds and operations inside port terminals. The new boat is part of Bergen’s moves towards the goal of becoming a zero-emission port.

The vessel is driven via twin water jets which are connected to the diesel and electric engines via gears. Top speed is over 27 knots. Batteries can operate the vessel at speeds in excess of 5 knots for two to three hours. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered in May 2021.

It will have an aluminium hull with a large front deck, bow ramp and crane as well as a wide bridge. The workboat is built to handle most tasks in maintaining the port facilities including towing and handling of other small craft, personnel transport, rescue missions and oil pollution combat.
