Spanish shipyard Astilleros Gondan has a letter of intent to build four wind farm construction vessels for Norwegian customer Ostensjo Rederi.
The 88m-long Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOV) will be used for construction and completion of offshore wind farms by the Haugesund-based maritime service provider. The CSOVs, designed by Norwegian-based Salt Ship Design, will serve as the mother ship for turbine engineers who perform installation and maintenance work on offshore wind turbines. They will be able to carry 97 construction personnel plus a crew of 23.
In addition to lower costs and more efficient operation, the new vessels, equipped with a battery hybrid propulsion system, should be able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 30%. The vessels will also be prepared for later installation of zero emission technology based on hydrogen operation.
