Norwegian Cruise Line takes delivery of “Norwegian Epic”

Norwegian Cruise Line has taken delivery of its largest and most innovative ship to date, the “Norwegian Epic”, from STX France SA.

At 153,000 gt, the “Norwegian Epic” is one of the largest vessels ever constructed in St. Nazaire and thus represents a major milestone for STX.

The “Norwegian Epic”, classed by Det Norske Veritas, features a propulsion system with induction motors fed by PWM converters. The electric propulsion plant is driven by six diesel engines from MaK-Caterpillar of type 12M43C, providing an overall 80.4 MW for a speed of 22.5 knots.

The 329.5m long and 40.5m wide “Norwegian Epic” will be named after a transatlantic crossing to New York. From July 10th, she will provide alternating seven-day Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami.
