Danish shipping company Terntank has ordered two chemical/product/biofuels tankers of 15,000dwt with a hybrid battery/gas propulsion from China’s AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding. The order includes an option for two more vessels.

The new tankers, designed by Kongsberg, are capable of operating with liquefied biogas (LBG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG). The vessels will be equipped with an electric power supply system including battery pack, shore power connection and bow thruster drive. Energy consumption and emissions will be further reduced with the latest digital solutions to optimise operations.
The tankers are scheduled to be in operation in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea in 2021. Terntank expects the new tankers to significantly reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impacts in the supply chain they operate as part of.
