Newport announces new partner yard in Thailand
Maritime service provider, Newport Shipping, is expanding its shipyard network with a new partnership with Unithai Shipyard and Engineering in Thailand. The arrangement is the latest step in Newport’s expansion strategy, taking its shipyard network to 16 yards with 48 docks and 2,800 slots suitable for a broad range of vessels.
Key benefits of the latest partnership include a greater presence in the Asia-Pacific region; an opportunity to combine Newport’s expertise with first-class repair facilities; and scope to provide maintenance, repair, and retrofit services more effectively to more clients across the region.
The Unithai facility has docks with capacities of 50,000dwt and 180,000dwt, 380m of quay, one 45-tonne crane, and one 100-tonne floating crane. The yard also has well-equipped workshops and a skilled workforce.
Newport managing director, Lianghui Xia, commented: “We are thrilled to partner with Unithai Shipyard and Engineering. Their reputation for excellence and strategic location in Thailand align perfectly with our vision to provide our clients with the best possible service worldwide. This collaboration will significantly enhance our operational capabilities and service portfolio.”
Speaking for the shipyard, operations director, Apichet Boonpuan, said: “Partnering with Newport Shipping is a significant step forward for us. Their global reach and industry leadership will complement our technical expertise and facilities. Together, we will set new standards in the maritime industry and deliver exceptional value to our clients.”
