New Swedish Coast Guard vessels for sea rescue and border control
The 26.5 m long and 6.2 m wide vessels of type KBV 312 are built of aluminium and are to be equipped with state-of-the-art technology concerning navigation and propulsion. Each boat will be equipped with three Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance Systems (IPS), each delivered complete with four control stations. As Volpo Penta states a top speed of 30 knots can be reached, and a reduction of fuel consumption by about 30 % might be achieved compared with traditional straight shaft and water jet vessels.
The five new vessels that will be used for surveillance, border control, fishing control, sea rescue and safety at sea activities, the first one scheduled for completion during autumn 2011.
